Subject: Audi 5000 CV Joints in a Syncro - some information to digest!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Today, when I was at the Volkswagen dealer the parts manager and I opened up as many different CV joint boxes as we could find. For those who need a little background on my quest, I was once told that Audi 5000 Quattro 108mm CV joints can be made to fit on a Vanagon...

Here are the specs of a Vanagon CV joint: 100mm outside diameter and a 25mm axle shaft hole.

The theory was to install an Audi 108mm transmission flange on the Syncro transmission then install a 108mm CV joint and attach the Vanagon axle. The Audi flange will fit on the Syncro transmission or the 2WD transmission for that matter. The 108mm CV will the Audi flange. The problem is the Vanagon axle is too small for the Audi CV joint. The Audi axle is 30mm and the splines are a little more course than the Vangon ones. Every 108mm CV joint they had, had a 30mm center... so, at this point I would have to say that there is more too it than swapping the flange and CV joint... even the larger CV joings (the 4Motion is 130mm!) has the larger axle shaft.

So, now I throw a question to the list... the European Syncro 16 CV joints are 108mm - do these CV joints have a 25 or 30mm axle shaft? If it is a 30mm axle shaft, does anyone have the part number?
