My experience was :


put in  exchange motor -- got continuous valve train noise for over a week.  readjusted valve pre load per Bently -- no immediate noise, but quickly came back AND destroyed two adjusters.  Read Bob's page -- called him -got two new lifters, adjusters and push rod tubes -- then adjusted with 6 mils -- drove to burger king (the long way around)  let idle some more    drove around the block a few times -- readjusted with 1/4 to 1/2 turns -- voila -- good compression, no noise.  worked for me, thats all I know.
