Martin, Bill Johnson was right. Get out of Southern California. For an experience which you are not likely to find anywhere else in this world, go to Canyon Country: Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. Do the State Park route through Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, etc. In my opinion, the north side of the Grand Canyon is more interesting, less touristed and better camping. Try to pass through Death Valley on your way to/from LAX but the drive between is long and boring but unlike Scotland in any way you can imagine. If you are lucky and you fly to LAX during daylight, you will pass over this wondrous canyon country. Remember, unlike Scotland, villages are few, populations are small and distances are large, so be prepared Larry and Avery Ontario, Canada Martin Laycock wrote: > This July we will be jetting off from Scotland to take a vacation in > California. > We have 17 days, a Westy to travel in, and two young children to keep amused. > We fly in and out from LAX.
