Additionally, or, maybe, FIRST, remove the two screws that hold the cowl (on the steering column) and push up on all the connectors to the ignition system (and all those others on the circle that surrounds the steering wheel, while you are at it.)

I had a similar experience to yours in the cold when I camped after stopping with the engine operating perfectly. Upon attempt to start, no start, silent. I checked all the elements recommended, so far by Listees, in response to your post. The problem turned out to bae a loose connector probably cause by cold-induced contraction of an already "just -connected" connector. Primitive 1950s shade tree mechanic stuff. First, CHECK ALL THE CONNECTORS.
