Hi Ken,

I have a high quality digital oil temp gauge with a sensor submerged in
the engine oil. At light load-moderate RPM coolant = 195*(F) & oil =
205*(F). At high load-3900 RPM(70MPH) coolant = 195* oil = 225/235*. I
have a healthy 2.1L. The engine oil in a diesel, especially a TD has
higher thermal loads so 250*F sounds normal. Unless its super cold,
ambient temps don't have much of an effect.
