I just bought three Kenwood KDC-6011 CD/recievers for my Westy and MGBs from Crutchfield. These are 1999 second-from-the-top-of-the-line models with remote control for $219 each. Best deal I could find for a top receiver with all the bells and whistles. I particularly like the removable face that when removed exposes a flashing "alarm" light, albeit fake.

Crutchfield says none of their recievers fit the Vanagon, but most do perfectly. The only caution for Westy owners is that the factory rear speakers share a common ground, and this requires rewiring a separate ground for each or getting a $50 "floating ground" device to support the high power modern receivers.

The factory speakers are useless with a high power receiver, so I installed close out 1999 Infinity Reference Series speakers from Crutchfield too, $160 for a pair of 6 x 9s for the front doors and a pair of 4" that fit the rear stock openings. Another good deal. To round it all out I added a Bazooka Tube 8" amplified bass unit that can be easily removed if I need the space for hauling.

Haven't gotten a CD changer yet, but will when the tax refund comes!

Very satisfied with the cost and performance. Now I can actually hear (and feel) the music while driving! -- Stuart MacMillan Manager, Case Program 800-909-8244 ext. 8208
