What is the nature of the failures, bearings or leaking?? In either case consistantly setting the belt too tight has to be ruled out first. Some use the maxim, "If some is good and more is better, then too much is just enough!" If that's not it, try a genuine VW pump. And do test the thermostat for good measure or if overheating has occured replace it out of course. Are they using the cheapest antifreese they can find?? Make the move to the specified non-phosphate ethylene glycol.

It wouldn't suprise me if you already thought of these obvious ideas. Keep us informed on any progress.
