Subject: rust spot on sliding window opening
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I decided to have a a go at touching up a wee bit of rust that was peeking out from under the rubber seal on my sliding door window (82 westy).

Well to make a long story short i spent the better part of the day on the job, including removing and reinstalling the window assembly.

The rust was localized at the two bottom corners of the window opening. I guess moisture would drain down each end of the window opening, between the rubber and the steel, and sit at those two positions.

It wasn't too hard to repair the damage and the winpow frame went back in without too much bother (see Joel Walker's tips in the archive section of gerry.vanagon.com).

So, a warning all those in wet and salty climes, peel back the rubber seal at the corners (both inside and outside), and have a look.

Alistair
