Are you installing a I4 in to a wasserboxer? Just use a grinder and a very wet rag. Wrap the rag around the base in the input shaft and start buzzing away. You only need to remove 5mm and it takes no time to do this. YES you do need to run a pilot bearing - with out one you will kill the oil seal in the transmission in jig time!
