I can't recall ever a case where cam bearings were worn and nothing else was. I also am unaware of any accurate diagnosis procedure of cam bearings without motor disassembly. I think it would be prudent to get a second opinion. Far more common to have noise from the lifters or worn out cam lobes than cam bearings. I could well be that the rockers are worn, which can be checked with simple removal of the valve covers. Don't authorize cam bearings replacement without better explaination. It just doesn't sound right.
