I have not real answer, only a comment that in my Ford Taurus, the driver's side mat has a similar kind of 'hook' that goes around a pin on the floor to keep the mat from sliding up under the pedals every time I get in and out. Might be the same idea? <shrug> Just a thought :) Regards from Utah,
