In my experience these specials at Firestone are used mainly to get people in the shop so they can be "recommended" more service. The first few times I used Firestone, they came up with all kinds of work that needed to be done "right now". For my truck (Ford Ranger, about 20 million of them in the US), I don't mind using them for some standard stuff, but I would be hesitant taking a VW in, especially if you have had no previous work done there.
