Vince; Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. If you have the new switch in hand you can swap them out quickly with very little loss of coolant. Inspect the surface of the old one that is immersed. I suspect it has a scaly coating. Consider taking you radiator out and having it "blasted" out. The inside of you radiator is probably similarly coated . At hiway speeds the fan should not be needed to move air across the cooling fins.
