i painted my two front grills, bumper ends, rear intake grills and mirrors this summer. I first washed and scrubbed them with dishsoap, sun dried them for a few hours, masked the important parts (mirror surface and mount, and VW emblem) and then spray painted them with Ace Semi-gloss black. That was in July 99. they appear to be holding fine- i have done a handful of short trips since then, but nothing really big.
