Jennifer,

IMHO 5k for this van is a good deal ...... if there are no hidden lurking problems. I have an '82 which is well used and I would not sell it if someone offered 4 or 5k. What kind of vehicle can you get for that nowadays - a Hyundai or Daewoo? Try to camp in a Hyundai!

Frankly as a vehicle goes the VW is far from perfect and you can expect to repair some items which go from age rather than miles.

A compression test and good once over from a mechanic or fellow VW enthusiast would be good. Where in Wisconsin are you? In the Milwaukee area the DBG group has a member or two who might help. I am up in Superior but have a house and some VW parts in Racine.

Good luck and if you decide not to purchace this van let the list know where it is hidding.
