   Two things I can think of off-hand.
1. Since you are going to pull the exhaust anyway check to see if you can
get the Oxygen sensor off. This is something that tends to weld itself to
the pipe and is a real (explitive deleted) to get off if it has.

2. Fuel lines.

a) definitely replace or
b) consider replacing

while doing the head gasket job.

My 86 Vanagon has 99,000 miles and appeared to be running perfectly (oops,
jinx) before I noticed the head leak.
