My favorite guerilla camping tactic is to find a residential street with houses on one side and a park on the other. I pull up on the park side of the street - my favorite place is in San Francisco on a side street by Stern Grove park. It's a very quiet, very nice neighborhood. The trees mask the slider door side, there is no foot traffic, the curb has ramps where, I guess, park vehicles drive into the park, so you can back the rear wheel gently up the ramp, nicely leveling the van. I usually sleep with the sliding door wide open (hate stuffy sleeping quarters) and have never had a second thought about it, nor once had my right to be there questioned.

You can't be very stealthy in a parking lot...camp on residential streets. Just don't run any interior lights, and of course don't put the top up. I've done this many times, in places I know and places I'm a complete stranger. I think there are enough Westys around so nobody really notices, unless you do something to attract attention.
