I recently had the oil changed on our '93 Camry at the local gas station/garage that I have been using for 20 years and has been there for probably 40 years. Well respected neighborhood business, never had a problem before. I decided to wait since they said they could do it right away. As I was watching, the mechanic/service person was having trouble getting the old filter off. Finally got a pair of giant slip lock pliers to try, it was then that I noticed he was turning it the wrong way. He would have figured it out eventually even if I hadn't mentioned it. Later he had his associate start the engine to run the oil through and check for leaks. Trouble was he hadn't put the new oil in yet. I also mentioned that.

Point of story: you can have poor work done in every possible situation, Cheapy Quick places, dealers, local stations. I really don't think that one is necessarily any better than another. And experience can not always be the guide, as in my case, 20 years good experience!

Whoever said that the only way to get it done right was to do it yourself was right... I'm sure none of us has ever made a mistake in our auto repair/servicing, eh?
