Phil,

Crutchfield is a good place to buy, but they don't want to provide any assistance for installation in old vans like ours. They have not updated their spec sheet for the Vanagon since '83. Most new stereos will fit, they just won't tell you that because they don't know or care to know.

I just bought the Kenwood KDC-6011 CD receiver that is on sale on the back of their latest catalog for $219, a very good deal. Fits perfectly.

One thing Crutchfield did tell me I needed was a floating ground isolator since the rear speakers are wired with a single ground, and that is not adequate with the high power receivers now available. Cost about $50, and eliminates the need to run another wire to the back.

Order what you want from Crutchfield, they will take it back within 30 days for any reason. -- Stuart MacMillan Manager, Case Program 800-909-8244 ext. 8208
