I've never seen a 83 diesel but I hear they're out there. Think the 5 spd was an option or maybe standard. If your hoping to put one in your 82 it will be a major project and that's IF you can find an 83 5spd donor. Lot's of changes from 82 to 83 making a lot of the 82 stuff one year only. If your tranny code is DZ (5.86ratio) you could maybe find a DM (5.46ratio) which was offered in 82. Bigger tires help some. Aircooled tranny swap ok if you go turbo or l.9L diesel transplant
