I've read some things on the Subaru engine conversions (but I'm always curious to read more, so if anyone has any other links not on volkswagen.org or relitech, let me know) and was wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head if the Subaru 2.5 litre engine is externally the same as the 2.2 litre engine. 2.5 litre, SOHC, 16-valve, 165 hp @ 5,600 rpm, 166 ft-lb torque @ 4,000 rpm versus 2.2 litre, SOHC, 16-valve, 142 hp @ 5,600 rpm, 149 ft-lb torque @ 3,600 rpm versus 2.1 litre wasserleaker, 90 hp, 117 ft-lb torque @ 3200 rpm My engine is still strong, but I would definitely be up for that sort of gain in the future!
