Someone asked: >>Hello from Atlanta...Is it possible to mount the spare tire on the front of our Vanagons, like you can with the bay window '70s vans? I have never seen a vanagon this way...
My comments: Wondered this myself--VW busses are 'sposed to have tires out front right? And I've seen tires mounted on the front of F*rd and Sh*tvy vans and trucks, obviously watercooled.
I know that many watercooled V'gons run around with their radiators half plugged with corrosion and barsleak, but is there any reason not to do this if you have a properly functioning coolant system? My coolant gauge never approaches the LED. Would the tire mounts that affix to the front bumper, ala F*rd and Sh*tvy-style, worker better (less interference with our high mount radiators) than the Loaf Bus-style mounts? Has anybody actually tried the tire out front on a watercooled v'gon?
