Having worked on more basket cases than I care to remember, let me offer the following FWIW: I worked at a Jaguar restoration and parts house many years ago. Had a customer look for the perfect E-type for restoration. When he found it (little or no rust, no collisions, etc.) he proceeded to completely disassemble it. I don't mean remove the engine, interior, yada yada.... I mean he constructed a frame jig and drilled out every single spot weld in the body and rewelded it to the precise factory listed dimensions. Taught himself welding and lots of restoration techniques while he was at it. Cost effective? Practical? Hardly, even for a Jag. One person's mistake is another's lesson. If you have the time, money, and enthusiasm (and no wife) I (being a fan of Don Quixote) say go for it. Ken Hunter 82 Westy |
