OK, I've read the service bulletins and the archives and am ready to install rear shoulder belts in our 86 Syncro GL. JordanVW IIRC noted that front belts will work in the rear, which would save me from having to argue with the dealer guys about the retrofit (and also from having to get to the dealership). If this is the case, anyone have a set that hasn't been in an accident? I could also use 2 or 3 headrests for the rear bench (blue or black, white might work too) Our van also has 2 rear-facing jump seats installed, but no belts. Anyone have a set? I'm presuming these are lap-only, which is OK for rear-facing seats, but has anyone fitted shoulder belts? I'm thinking of fitting Schroth 4-point harnesses; they're DOT approved for street use. 4-points are generally not regarded highly in racing for lack of a submarine strap, but in a rear facing seat this shouldn't be a big deal. Just have to work with the local race shop to figure out how to get a good mount for the shoulder straps :-) Cheers - ed |
