The ECU does not have adaptive learning like some of the more modern cars. It does have a memory of values sent by various sensors. I.E. if a sensor all of the sudden starts to send bad information the ECU will ignore that and go back to the last known good value and use that in a fixed state. When you turn the engine off it wipes the slate clean and it starts all over again.
