Doug,

Most any engine is going to need some valve work after 100,000 miles, especially valve guides in our engines. Any head that is leaking will at a minimum have pits in the mating surface that will need to be machined out, which is part of the rebuild process anyway. But many of us on the list don't think rebuilt heads are worth their cost given that new ones are under $500 from several list vendors.

How many more miles do you want to buy for an extra $1000? You might get another 100,000 like I did (on a 1.9), or you might get 15,000 or so by re-using the old heads. It is your choice.

You might ask the shop owners on the list if any of them would re-use old heads. I doubt that any would, especially given all the work involved in the job. -- Stuart MacMillan Manager, Case Program 800-909-8244 ext. 8208
