I was very heavy into aquariums a few years back and one of the things that they recommend was to add tannin in the water for several types of S. American fish. From what I remember this makes the water somewhat "Acidic."

I believe that you should not have an acidic environment in your westy engine because it will increase the rate of corrosion.
