Stay in the middle, away from the coasts. Here in SE AZ at 5000', the temps are mild, skiing is only an hour, and the ocean is only 3 hours. A 3 Bdm 3000 sq ft house on 10 acres will set you back about $150,000. In addition, the Vanagons in the junkyards are mostly rust free, and Mexico is about 1.5 hours.
