When I bought my '85 westy, the drilling had already been done. There was a hole in the front center of the luggage rack, and under that a hole in the metal roof. So, being that it was already there, I cleaned them up and used them to mount a base-load whip up there for the side band. It required running new cable down the windshield pillars as the PO had pulled all the wires out and removed the mount (more hassle than it was worth IMO). However, the antenna placement worked great, many conversations with folks in distant places. Then some cretin decided he needed my radio more than I did and helped himself. One of these days I'll replace it....
