I have an '87 Vanagon and this weekend borrowed my friend's '86 and noticed
a difference in the fresh air vents on the extreme right and left of the
dash.  On my '87, if I have the 2nd lever over to the hot air position, I
get hot air coming out those vents.  On his van, same setting, I got cold
outside air.  Both vans in this setting blow hot air out the defrost.  Which
van is right??  Thanks.

If it makes a difference, my van's running temp has the gauge right on the
light, and his is BARELY over the white mark on the lower 1/4.
