What I considered doing for my Westy was completing the all the prep work in my garage. Remove the bumpers, glass, etc; tape all the no-paint parts, sand and prep the small areas of rust. In other words, get it completely prepped and then hire a flat bed tow truck to drop it off and pick it up at the paint shop. According to the shops I spoke with I could cut my costs from a $3000.00 paint job down to $1000.00 by doing this. The only thing I did not feel confident doing was putting on a smooth coat of Savannah Beige Metallic for my '85 Westy.
