Try lowering the tire pressure 5-7 lbs in the front and 5 lbs in the rear (assuming you are running the proper LT or reinforced tire at higher pressure and not passenger car tires). Your tires will not wear as long, but your teeth will, and you'll get better winter traction to boot! Firmer shocks will exacerbate the problem. The Vanagon is a light truck, not a minivan!
