I cant say that I've heard of Vanagon glass shattering, but VW is having a
nightmare here these days.
Over 100 1997+ Passat Wagons, and an unknown number of EVs have had problems
with the rear windows. The glass shatters, or rather explodes in the cold, when
the heater lines are used. According to the importer, the reason is that the
lines are too close to each other, making the tempered glass too hot. Of course,
the owners get new glass for free, but there is no recall system here, other
than the manufacturer's voluntary systems. The factory apparently does not know
how many cars this affects, so they just replace when the glass takes off.
