I believe that's good advice, but I don't think it's critical -- the plastic tee fittings (or the flow restrictor in the ones with metal tee fittings) limit flow. The missing core of course adds some resistance, but I don't think it's a lot compared to the rest. And if the flow rate doesn't go up significantly there should be no problem -- hot coolant doesn't lose much heat there unless the blower is on. It does of course send back coolant the could be passing through your front heater instead...could be nice if the rear one isn't available.
