Ever wonder how many folks driving the Civics and KIA's look at our Vanagons and think the same thing? Seems to me the only folks in the country with room to gripe about the other guys pollution are the Amish.

Here in Atlanta, GA, home of the longest average commute in the United States (I think it's 36 miles a day r/t) and in a Metro area the size of Connecticut (by the way I think all these superlatives are a bad thing) regular unleaded at Quick Trip just went up in a week from $1.18 to $1.26 a gallon. Considering a more apt description of I-285 would be a chain of behemoth sport utility vehicles rather than a circumferential highway--I'm most happy to see the price go up. Too many folks in this town (where gas last summer was as low as 80 cents a gallon) have gotten too comfortable with driving intimidating vehicles that get 9 MPG if that. This is the land of both the stretch Hummer and stretch Lincoln Navigrator limousines.

Together with their $800 car payments and the increasing price of gasoline it would be nice to see these things garaged and more people flooding the VW dealer here asking for TDI Jettas, Golfs and New Beetles and demanding they bring over the TDI Passat Wagon. I'm not really a Marxist, but certain cars bring out my red tendencies from youth :-)

Give me that soot over ground level ozone any day! _________________________________________________________ Donald Baxter onanov@mindspring.com (home) 404 325 1991 donald.baxter@transcore.com (work) 770 246 6261 www.mindspring.com/~onanov
