J & R caters to a special market - they sell Vanagons that have been totally gone through, prepped, and tightened. In theory, the buyer is willing to pay a premium because of their reputation for selling very nice, well maintained vans.

I have seen several list members over the years buy Westies from them and all reported nothing but good news.

The prices are absurd in any coast. Unfortunately, there are probably people who will pay these prices.
