There are two techniques for removing the pilot bearing:

1. Find a socket that just fits into the bearing and put it on a short extension. Pack the bearing cavity and the socket with the heaviest grease you can find, then tap the socket into the cavity. The bearing should be forced out since the grease has no place to go but behind the bearing edge and force it out. This will only work with with a very good fit for the socket.

2. Buy a slide hammer at your favorite tool supplier and install a big nail bent at the end into a hook that will fit behind the bearing and "slide hammer" it out. This is the method I use.

Check the bearing by feeling it for ridges, if none leave it in! They will last a long time with just a little lube when installed.
