Subject: Stalling 1.9l Digijet
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I have an '85 1.9l that likes to stall when braking quickly at a stop sign or red light when cold. If I push in the clutch too soon, it will stall. This usually happens only in the first 15 minutes or so. I get a blip on the tachometer, usually a red light (battery/alt) and it stalls. Cold starts require some fancy footing to keep it idling. I have replaced the idle stabilizer and gone over most of the FI system. The throttle switch is correct. The temp. sensor was replaced. The AFC was replaced along with all vacuum lines. The aux. air switch is OK. It seems ignition related because of the spike on the tach. I may have the idle screw/CO settings too far off for the idle stabilizer to correct. It seems like the stabilizer is trying to keep it going, but can't compensate enough. Once its warm, the idle is fine. If I ease into the stop and only use the clutch once the rpms are down to idle speed, it is OK . I do have the timing advanced a few degrees--it seems to rum better there. I should double check that first. Someone suggested coil because of the tach spike, but it runs ok once warm. Any suggestions?
