Bill, get yourself a copy ot Bentley's ...that is the official Volkswagon Vanagon maintenance manual. Not sure of sources on that one..maybe try The Bus Depot or Ken Wilford. Also from The Bus Depot get a copy of the Haynes manual on the vanagon.(about $20). The two manuals present material differently, but really go hand in hand together.
