Subject: 1985 Vanagon - Engine Transplant. Factory vs. other Rebuilds
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hi, Listees!

This is excerpted from an Email I got from one of the guys on my list to do my engine transplant. It seems to contradict what everyone on the list has said about Boston Bob's and other rebuilds. Also seems way more expensive than other quotes I got!

Thoughts?

"There are a few options when it comes to replacing the Vanagon engine. I have found from years of doing this that this engine holds up much better if it is rebuilt by the factory. I have used other manufactures engines in the past. Some turn out very good while others did not hold up as long as I thought they should have.

With that said, I will replace your engine with a factory rebuild unit. The labor cost is roughly $1100.00. In addition to this cost, the engine will be about $2200.00. I will know tomorrow. We also have to think of a few other components when doing this job. I like to replace the water pump and thermostat at this time. This is usually the reason the engine went bad to begin with. We also have to make sure that all of your exhaust system parts are in good shape."

Thanks, Lauren
