Just wondering if anyone can shed light on the cause of this mysterious noise my Waterboxer has recently started making.

over the last month or so I have been aware of a mysterious "thump" occuring once when the vehicle has been idling in the driveway after a decent run or just after I turn it off in the garage. It is probably best described as sounding like someone giving one of the metal panels a gentle thump with the side of their fist. __________________________

Had the same mystery - finally traced it down to the rear brakes after engaging the emergency brake; something - a shoe maybe - was binding slightly then releasing. See if applying/releasing/reapplying the E brake stops the sound.
