Steve,
I'm up on Whidbey Island. I'll take your advice about getting the engine
number for further identification...truth is I've been so busy lately I
haven't had any opportunity to investigate. I took the Vanagon off the
island today for the first time [as being the owner] and was pleasantly
surprised by the "get up and go" it had. Going up a moderate hill in 3rd
gear and jumping up to 45 miles per hour in about 10 seconds [I watch the
clock on the dash]...I was impressed. Purrrrrd like a kitten all the way to
Mt. Vernon and back. I'm going to take it in to a mechanic friend of mine to
confirm that it's ok. I'm anxious to do that.
Perhaps we'll be able to meet sometime...thanks.
Bill

Hi Bill:
Where in WA are you? I'm in the Seattle area (just south in Kent) and have
been quietly curious about your Vanagon/Porsche combination. If you want
more information on the Porsche motor, you could get the engine number off
the motor, the perhaps a Porsche dealer could tell you more about the motor
(year, displacement, etc). If you are in the area, we can try to arrange a
meeting sometime if you like, perhaps dig up a little more info on your
gem....
