In the time my 86 Vanagon Syncro has been out of commission - notorious 3-4 gear fracture - the differential lock vacuum solenoid became misplaced. The van is together except for the missing differential lock solenoid (and bracket). Is it safe to drive the van without the differential lock solenoid installed? If the answer is no - which way should the fork be locked in place? Pulled out ( to the passengers side) or pushed in (to the drivers side). Also - if my mechanic's supplier cannot locate a bracket and solenoid, does someone have one on a shelf someplace?
