Two years ago while camping in snow at the North Rim/ Grand Canyon I spoke with a Belgian traveljournalist driving a similar looking off-road camper on a Unimog basis. He said that he,his wife and son had been traveling the world for four years, crossed seven deserts, and were on their way to Tierra del Fuego. Their truck was a white 4x4 Diesel Unimog long-wheel-base with a custom made slide-out camping unit, and a Kawasaki dirtbike attached to a derrick in the rear. When asked how much this cozy vehicle cost him he said: several Ferraris and a Porsche. Humbled, I returned to my freezing cold 5000$ Westy. Hermann de Boer 87 GL Westy |
