According to Shelleys VW in Port Elizabeth, RSA "Vanagons" come standard with a five-cylinder Audi 2.5. They offered me a complete 2.5 engine/trans kit, ready to fit, for 22000.00 rand last year.

There may be smaller VW/Audi engines available, but not mentioned in their communication, as they knew that I wanted more power.

The 3.0 is not a VW offering, but a very common aftermarket swap to a Ford V6, either the Coventry or Cologne (both European engines).

The Oettinger engines are German-made, and were available as aftermarket conversions worldwide. For a price (Oettinger used to be called Okrasa once). These engines are RARE, and are stretched versions of the wasserboxer, in 2.7 & 3.2liter capacities (based on the VW 1.9 & 2.1 respectively). So...if the wasserboxer four is a bear to maintain, what will a six-cylinder version be? I did try to locate one in RSA, but nobody who replied knew of any. Just as well, otr I might have made the mistake of buying one.

Andrew
