Subject: VW tool numbers (?!)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed"

OK, OK, OK:

I know we all find the Bentley manual very helpful and all, but am I the only one who is sometimes confused, frustrated, or worse with how the Bentley manual always refers to tools by the Official VW Tool Part Number (i.e., use tool US 4336) instead of simply saying "feeler gauge"?

Sometimes it's easy to figure out what the tool is. Sometimes not. Where can I find (buy, borrow, steal...) a list of these VW tool part numbers with an explanation of what these tools really are? I'd really like to know that a VW 10-232 is a little set of drawers for keeping diesel valve adjustment discs in, or that a VW8630 is a fuel pressure gauge calibrated in kPa designed to be tapped directly in to the fuel rail.

I *know* most of these tools could be had at a FLAPS; heck, I've prolly got a lot of them in my tool box right now. Thing is, I'd like some idea of what the tool actually is, so I can have confidence I'm following procedures correctly. Ideally, I'd like to known what a non-proprietary tool equiavlent would be, and any conversion factors that might be required in using the alternate tool.

Am I the only one feeling this way?

If anyone has a "VW tool part numbers in real words" reference, or know where to get one, please let me know.
