ok, I've let this bug me long enough:

PerL's web site of M-codes got me dreaming of possible options, but where would one find the tag with the M-codes listed on their vanagon? I've looked at the tags on the door post but didn't think I saw these elusive numbers. Maybe my westy has something I'm not aware of???
