Subject: electrical problem

Wow, my son finally got off his duff and got his 86 Syncro running (sure, he wants to go to Death Valley Wednesday) Many months ago, when he was on his way to the desert, the water distributor broke and dumped his coolant. Flatbedded it home and there it sat for at least 7-8 months. I put in a new water distributor a couple of months ago, and still he would not work on it. When I tired to start it, I found the ignition switch (mechanical part) was broke and needed to be replaced. That done Kevin (my son) turned the key and it (the engine, not the key) purred like a kitten. Even the tappet noise wasn't too bad. However, the gas and temp gage weren't working. Then we noticed that the headlights wouldn't come on, not even the high beams when activated by the flasher stalk. Also he has fog light wired directly to the battery thru a relay and they would not come on. Other dash lights, tach, heater fans, front and rear, wipers and the parking lights, all are working fine. I believe the solution to this problem is probably in one spot, just haven't found it yet (it was late in the afternoon and raining). So, before we tackle it tomorrow, perhaps someone has a suggestion as to where to start looking.

Thank a bunch.
