4x4 fever can be pretty contagious, but ooh so costly. The modern Unimogs are real status symbols. Nice toys for millionaires. But if one really needs something like that, why not get a used mitsu fuso 4x4. Put a nice used camper shell on the back, and you got a real economog. Even makes a great freeway runner. Imagine a 4x4 with: 235 hp turbo intercooled diesel, 5 speed tranny, 2 speed high low transfer case, and a limited slip differential. And what I find most important, one can still sit up front, just like in the vanagon or VW LT. I never could figure out why they don't make any camper conversions of those here in the U.S. Check it out: http://www.camperworld.com.au/images/offroad.jpg
