My bushings don't squeak so much when it's raining, but it's getting worse again. I'll have to replace them soon. Anyone ever cut a upper contr. arm bush. in half to see what they look like inside? I installed new ones only about 2 years ago, german OEM bushings, even had them spot welded to the arm. Only 25,000 miles later and they start squeaking again on the right. Discussed this with a local VW mechanic. He told me that the bushing can rip or tear internally, if one tightens the upper control arm nut, while the front of the van is suspended in the air (like on a lift or jack stands). Then when you lower the van, the bushing is "pre-stressed" and the rubber inside the bush. can rip prematurely. Says only torque or tighten the upper contr. arm nut with the van standing on its wheels. I always thought the bushings were free moving, no limit to their rotation. He thinks the rubber in the bushing can rip inside, and that's when they squeak. Any opinions? Harald '90 westy |
